　　General Introduction
　　The Catalan vaulting system can be traced to Roman times. It was, and still is, one of the most elegant and sophisticated crafts to cover a space. Astonishingly, however, its existence and history has been thoroughly forgotten in the Western world. The first part of this lecture traces the Catalan vault's origins, dissemination, and reincarnation in modern world. From Antoni Gaudí, who rediscovered the Catalan vault in his root-seeking journey, to Ricardo Porro, the leading architect of the Cuba National Art Schools, the revolutionary path of this old craft comes to an incomplete circle.

　　The second half of this lecture will be a screening of the award-winning documentary "Unfinished Spaces" (2013), featuring intimate footage of the struggle and passion of three revolutionary artists who created the National Art Schools in Cuba.
