Embodying Infrastructure / Erin Cuevas

USC毕业,目前正在哈佛GSD念研究生的女性建筑师Erin Cuevas对基础停车设施的身份性和衍生意义做了一番探索。Erin Cuevas, an architect who is now studying in GSD after graduated from USC,explores the identity and derivative significances of car infrastructure.

Appreciation towards Erin Cuevas  for providing the following description:  

汽车一直在不断地演变以更好地适应人们的需求。然而与之相关的基础设施却停滞不前,不但没有为以汽车为核心的当代移动生活方式创造合理的环境,单一乏味的汽车基础设施尤其是公共交通甚至时常给驾驶者带来不佳的情绪体验。那么,基础设施是否能如汽车一样成为驾驶员身体的延伸和身份的象征呢?我们又能否与基础设施建立如同与汽车一般的亲密关系呢?

While the automobile has continued to evolve to fit the desires of drivers, infrastructure has remained static. Rather than fostering a proper environment for the contemporary mobile lifestyle, infrastructure instead produces a monotonous and often irritating experience of driving, especially during traffic. Is it possible for infrastructure to function the same way as cars - as an extension of thedriver’s body and identity? Can we develop relationships with our built environment as intimately as we already do with our cars?
